The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has pinpointed interoperability as the defining challenge for digital asset securities adoption in capital markets. A new white paper produced with Boston Consulting Group, Clearstream, and Euroclear maps the infrastructure gaps between distributed ledger systems and traditional finance.

Fragmented networks currently create settlement inefficiencies and liquidity bottlenecks. The report proposes standardized protocols to bridge TradFi and DeFi ecosystems—a prerequisite for institutional adoption of blockchain-based securities.

While digital assets promise faster settlements and novel financial instruments, the lack of cross-chain compatibility remains a systemic roadblock. DTCC's framework suggests interoperability solutions could unlock $100B+ in trapped liquidity across securities markets.
